#MeetOurAlumni: Charl Engelbrecht
Our alumni have always been a diverse group, sharing a passion for design innovation and boldly shaping the future rather than just living in it. Here are some of their stories:
Meet Charl Engelbrecht
I am a Motion Designer and graduated from CTCA in 2019. I was always interested in a creative direction as I had been playing around with designing and video editing from a young age.
CTCA attracted me as they offered courses that looked really interesting, which you could not really do anywhere else. I did enjoy my time at CTCA a lot.
What have you been up to since graduating?
After graduating I immediately started working full-time at the animation studio, Wicked Pixels. I worked there as a junior 3D generalist from the beginning of 2019 until March of this year.
I wanted to see what else was out there, so after Wicked pixels, I joined the digital design studio MakeReign as a Motion Designer. I am still working at MakeReign currently, and have been enjoying the last few months working with them.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since graduating?
I would say I am proud to have been working for and with some of the top studios in South Africa. It has been a very educational experience thus far, learning from creatives with many years of experience, and producing award-winning work. The first time when I saw one advert I had worked on, playing on the television, was also a pretty proud moment.
Is there anything you miss about being a student at Creative Academy?
I do miss the projects we were tasked with at CTCA. The freedom you had in creating the work was something I miss.
What advice do you have for current students?
My advice for students would be to have a chat with people in the industry you are interested in and find out if it is really what they want to do. If it is, it will really help inspire your current projects and help you work harder.

What inspires you?
I get inspired by looking at other artists’ work on Instagram or Behance. It really does spark ideas when looking at good work.
What is next for you?
I am happy at my current studio and am focused on continually improving my skills and producing high-quality work.
