Advanced Creative Entrepreneurship (ACE)

Starting a creative enterprise takes courage, resilience and perseverance. Yet, that’s only the first step.

The real challenge lies in maintaining energy levels, drive and vision. How do we move our business to the next level, empower our teams to build on what we have created and generate a strong sense of purpose and mastery in what we do?

ACE provides you with the creative leadership skills to fall in love with your creative business all over again. It addresses the blind spots of a fast-moving marketplace, and helps you to find your focus and eliminate detractors.

This experiential creative leadership and business course is a strategic makeover for your business that focuses on peer learning, a network of support and weekly workshops.

Advanced Creative Entrepreneurship is presented in collaboration between the Creative Academy and the Creative Leadership Consultancy.

Business Acumen for Artists (BAA)

Business Acumen for Artists (BAA) is a 13-week short course focused on business basics – empowering creative professionals to sustainably start and manage their own creative enterprises.

The course teaches key business skills such as financial management, decisive negotiating skills, pitching and pricing, among others.

BAA is a practical investment for any creative who plan on commercialising their creativity. Graduates will emerge with new confidence regarding their commercial aspirations and be reliably equipped to deal with the dangers of exploitation.

Practical in nature, the course includes a product/service generating methodology and culminates in a formal pitch of the idea or product that students developed. This is then transformed into a viable business offering.

Run for the past twelve years at UCT’s Graduate School of Business, 2019 marks a new home for BAA at the Creative Academy.

Service Design

In today’s world, user experience is everything. A business that truly understands what their customer wants from them, and how they want to experience that product or service, is a business with a true competitive advantage. User experience is everything.

Service Design involves practical, creative and collaborative approaches to developing new or improved services and the delivery thereof.

As the world becomes more interconnected, the problems organisations face have become more intertwined. The principles of Service Design streamline these complexities by aligning people, infrastructure, communication and material components of a service, which in turn improves the quality of a product or service and the relationship between an organisation and its customers.

This course is designed and facilitated by DYDX, leading product and service design practitioners.
