Business Acumen for Artists

Course Overview

Business Acumen for Artists (BAA) is a 13-week short course focused on business basics – empowering creative professionals to sustainably start and manage their own creative enterprises.

Presented at the Creative Academy at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.

Time: Monday evenings from 18:00 – 21:00
Dates: 26 August – 02 December 2019
Application deadline: 23 August 2019
Course fee: R7 500.00

The course teaches key business skills such as financial management, decisive negotiating skills, pitching and pricing, among others.

BAA is a practical investment for creatives who plan on commercialising their creativity. Graduates will emerge with new confidence regarding their commercial aspirations and be reliably equipped to deal with the dangers of exploitation.

Practical in nature, the course includes a product/service generating methodology and culminates in a formal pitch of the idea or product that students developed. This is then transformed into a viable business offering.

Run for the past twelve years at UCT’s Graduate School of Business, 2019 marks a new home for BAA at the Creative Academy.

Business Acumen for Artists is presented in collaboration between the Creative Academy and the Creative Leadership Consultancy.
